Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long will it usually take to set up my arbor or trellis?
Many of these structures usually take a matter of hours
to set up. For a homeowner with some assembly experience,
you can expect to spend an afternoon’s worth of
time putting up your arbor. The arbors and trellises come
with complete instructions. Assembly will require typical
hand tools.

-
What is the difference between an arbor and a pergola?
“Arbor”
and “Pergola” are often used interchangeable.
They are actually very similar. The word pergola, though,
suggests that the structure has more of an open-roof appearance.
A pergola forms a shaded walk or passageway, and an arbor
is generally understood to be a shaded sitting place.
-
Does my arbor or trellis need to be anchored to something?
Yes, it is recommended that these be anchored into the
ground. They can also be anchored to a deck.
-
Do you sell the anchors for the arbors and trellises?
We offer an Arbor
Anchor Kit for the cedar arbors on our site. However,
this kit is not recommended for any other arbors.
-
What should I do to protect my cedar
arbor or trellis?
Cedar should not need any special treatments. Over time,
cedar will naturally turn a silver-grey color.
-
How do I take care of my vinyl
arbor or trellis?
You will need to use the same treatments you would use
for vinyl siding. You should be able to find products
for cleaning vinyl siding in a local hardware or siding
store. Be mindful if you are growing plants around the
structures and make sure the products you chose will not
poison them.
-
How can I prevent my metal
arbor or trellis
from rusting?
When the structure is assembled, it is suggested that
you coat the joints and screws with a protective clear
coating made for metal use.
-
Does my trellis or arbor carry a warranty?
Yes, all come with an expressed manufactured warranty
that may vary from arbor to arbor, but which is detailed
on each product’s Web page. The typical warranty
length is one-year against manufacturer’s defects.
-
Can I plant vines around my arbor?
Yes, there are many wonderful vine plants that your arbor
can support. We suggest you check with a local nursery
to find out what will work best in your area.
-
Can I paint my arbor or trellis a different color?
Yes! However, you should consult a local hardware for
the proper paint or stain you will need.
-
Will I need to consult my local planning and zoning board
before I order my arbor?
Yes! It is important to check and see if you will need
a building permit before you order an arbor.
